How the DrHealthy programme works

No diet booklet and no empty promise, but a personal lifestyle system with daily guidance by a doctor. Reading time: about 4 minutes.

Developed by K.Y.J.A.M. Ho, MD PhD, medical specialist · medically reviewed by C. Pleiter, medical specialist · updated 21 August 2026 · evidence in the knowledge base

In brief Your intake and your own measurements determine which lever you change first. You do not change everything at once; daily personal lifestyle guidance by a doctor helps you sustain that one change. Every week we compare your lifestyle measurements with the expected trend: if it works, we build on it; if not, we change the lever. Blood pressure and blood test results are measured and interpreted by your own doctor and fall outside the programme. Twelve weeks, then you can continue independently.

The system determines your first lever

Most programmes give everyone the same prescription. That may work for the average participant, but you are not the average participant. Research gives us ranges for each intervention: reducing salt lowers systolic blood pressure by roughly 4 to 6 mmHg on average, and each kilogram lost by about 1 mmHg. What works best for you depends on where you start and what you can sustain. That is why this programme starts with measurements, not a diet.

Week 0 · Know your starting point

A detailed intake questionnaire about your lifestyle plus one week of baseline measurements: weight, waist circumference, sleep and energy. You do not need to schedule repeated calls; you enter and measure, and your doctor follows your lifestyle along.

1

Week 1 · Your first lever

Your intake and baseline measurements produce a personal plan with one first lever. For one person that may be food choices, often carbohydrate-aware when appropriate; for another it may be salt, liquid calories, movement or sleep. One lever at a time, because that is what people sustain.

2

Weeks 1–8 · Daily guidance, weekly adjustment

You receive daily personal guidance from a doctor through WhatsApp: short messages at set moments, answers to your questions and feedback that fits your progress. Each week you submit your lifestyle measurements, such as weight, waist circumference, sleep and energy, and we compare your trend with the expected trend. Blood pressure and blood test results are measured and interpreted by your own doctor and fall outside the programme. If it is on track, we continue or add a second lever. If not, we adjust precisely—no new diet, just a targeted change.

3

Weeks 9–12 · Make it last

The final weeks focus on sustainability: what can you maintain without guidance, how do you handle holidays, celebrations and setbacks, and how will you monitor your own trend? You finish with your own maintenance plan.

What you measure, and why weekly averages matter

Measurements are your steering wheel, not your report card. Weight is measured daily for the trend, waist circumference weekly, and each day you note briefly how you slept and how much energy you had. Blood pressure and blood test results are measured and interpreted by your own doctor and fall outside the programme. We look at weekly averages rather than isolated readings; daily fluctuations are often fluid and chance, the trend is what matters. Our free knowledge base explains how to measure reliably at home, including how to measure reliably at home.

Who is behind it

The programme was developed by K.Y.J.A.M. Ho, MD PhD, an internationally registered medical specialist (BIG, GMC, DHA) with around 25 scientific publications, and is medically reviewed by C. Pleiter, medical specialist. The same evidence you find in the knowledge base —with ranges and sources instead of promises—forms the basis of the programme. Read more about the team →

What it is not

No crash diet, no shakes and no promise of a specific number of kilograms or blood-pressure reduction. DrHealthy is a lifestyle programme, not medical treatment: it does not replace your GP and does not treat acute or serious conditions. The first experiences of people who followed the approach before the official start are on the homepage. Results from the first full group will be published once it is complete.

Do you use medication? Never change your dose yourself. If lifestyle changes work for you, medication may sometimes be reduced, but only together with your own doctor. Repeated readings around or above 180 mmHg systolic or 120 mmHg diastolic require prompt medical assessment; do not wait for lifestyle changes.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the programme for?

For adults who want to improve their weight, blood pressure or blood sugar through lifestyle and would benefit from structure. If you are pregnant, have an eating disorder or a serious condition, this programme is not suitable; speak with your own doctor first.

How much time does it take each week?

Allow a few minutes each day for messages and measurements, in addition to the time you spend cooking and moving. There are no mandatory calls or fixed appointments.

Do I have to eat low carb?

No. Carbohydrate-aware eating is a logical first lever for many participants, but the system chooses based on your figures and your life. A lever you sustain beats a theoretically better one you abandon.

How does payment work?

You first sign up without obligation and we contact you personally. If the programme is a good fit, you receive payment instructions for a one-off, secure online payment of € 499 including VAT. Within 1 working day of receipt of your payment you receive the intake questionnaire and your programme starts.
